The Regional Development Centre, through its technology transfer and applied research services provides:
- Industry collaboration through knowledge transfer services aimed at established enterprises and external organisations.
- Innovation support
- Applied research that links organisational R&D needs with the research expertise of the institute
- Consultancy and advisory
- Technology transfer.
- Support for the commercialisation of DkIT’s intellectual property
The Institute continues to identify technology transfer opportunities and negotiate licensing and TT agreements of mutual benefit. Patenting opportunities are progressed and relevant training on IP identification, protection and exploitation is provided to researchers.
In this way, the Regional Development Centre at DkIT, is committed to ensuring that the knowledge the institute generates is disseminated, transferred, applied and commercialised.
Research at Dundalk Institute of Technology is founded upon excellence with an emphasis on real societal and economic impact whilst addressing current global challenges. The institute has consolidated and concentrated its research into key thematic areas through the formation of Research Clusters in which the Institute possesses real international reputation, namely:
- ICT, Health and Ageing
- Energy and the Environment
- Creative Arts
There has been continual growth in the Institute’s research expenditure over the past decade, with research funding in excess of €40m being secured from both national and international sources. A range of industry-oriented projects are supported through Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation partnership, research voucher and commercialisation fund schemes, primarily within the ICT, Ageing and Health areas. DkIT has always recognised the strategic advantages to be gained through successful collaboration and cooperation with national and international partners, whether they be academic, industrial or from the wider community.
